The Beast The town couldn’t handle it. This situation was far beyond their capabilities. The richer townsfolk had already left…the next day they found most of the bodies. The remainder of the council had called a town meeting to which the priest now shuffled. The priest was a small, unassuming man with a level head and an open mind. But the events of the past few days seemed to weigh down upon this man’s shoulders like the cross of Christ. As he entered the town hall packed full of citizens and warmed by the great log fire, the priest mumbled a quiet apology for being late which was lost under the tumult of conversation.
